Full review
The iPhone 17e is the cheapest way to buy a new iPhone. It keeps the important parts, the A19 chip, iOS with Apple Intelligence, IP68 water resistance and years of updates, and trims the extras.
Performance is not one of the compromises: the A19 is the same chip family as the iPhone 17, so apps, games and photo editing all run smoothly, and it will stay fast for years. Storage starts at a generous 256GB, and this year the 17e also gains MagSafe, so magnetic chargers, wallets and stands snap on.
The savings come from the screen and cameras. The 6.1-inch OLED display refreshes at 60Hz rather than 120Hz, so scrolling looks less fluid than on the iPhone 17, and it is less bright at 1,200 nits. There is one 48MP rear camera, which can crop to 2x, but there is no ultrawide for landscapes or tight rooms.
Apple quotes up to 26 hours of video playback, and charging tops out at 20W wired or 15W wireless. If you want an iPhone mainly for messaging, photos and apps and value price over features, the 17e is a sensible choice.
