Babolat Pure Drive (Gen 11, 2025) review

Updated · Compared in: Tennis racquets

Babolat Pure Drive (Gen 11, 2025)
Best overall

Best for: Most club players · Upper mid-range

Our verdict: The classic easy-power racquet, now a little softer on the arm: forgiving, fast and comfortable enough for most players.

Pros

  • Lots of free power and spin from a 100 sq in head
  • Forgiving on off-centre hits
  • Gen 11 adds flax fibres for a softer feel
  • Huge choice of lighter and longer versions

Cons

  • Still a stiff frame compared with the Clash
  • Power can be hard to control for big hitters
  • Sold unstrung

Full review

The Pure Drive is one of the best-selling performance racquets in the world for a simple reason: it makes tennis feel easier. A 100 sq in head, 300 g unstrung weight and a stiff, thick-ish beam combine to give plenty of depth on groundstrokes and serves without a huge swing.

The eleventh generation, launched in 2025, focuses on comfort. Babolat's NF²-Tech 2.0 adds natural flax fibres to the frame to absorb vibration, and Babolat quotes a stiffness of 72 (±3). It should still feel firm next to a Wilson Clash, though, so if you already have elbow or wrist problems, try one before you buy.

The flip side of easy power is that very fast swingers can find the ball flies long; many of them move to a 98 sq in frame such as the Blade. For the much larger group of club and league players, especially those who like to play from the baseline, the Pure Drive remains the safest single recommendation. Babolat also makes Team and Lite versions for players who want something lighter.
