Sonos Roam 2 review

Full review

The Roam 2 is Sonos's smallest speaker, built to work both as a Wi-Fi speaker in a Sonos home and as a Bluetooth speaker outside it. Sonos rates it IP67, so it can be submerged in 1 m of water for up to 30 minutes, and it is drop resistant.

It is small and light at 168 x 62 x 60 mm and 0.43 kg. The built-in 5000 mAh battery is rated for up to 10 hours of continuous playback at moderate volume, the shortest claim in this group. Charging is by USB-C at up to 15 W (the adapter is not included) or by Qi wireless chargers, including Sonos's own.

At home it connects over 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, supports AirPlay 2 and works with Sonos Voice Control and Amazon Alexa. Sound Swap moves what you are listening to between the Roam 2 and nearby Sonos speakers. Automatic Trueplay tuning adjusts the sound if you turn it on in the Sonos app. Bluetooth 5.2 handles use away from Wi-Fi.

Sonos does not publish codecs, output power, stereo pairing for Bluetooth, aux input or power bank features on the page, so those are marked not stated. It is a good fit if you already own Sonos, and less so if you want a loud party speaker.
