Kala KA-15T Satin Mahogany Tenor review

Full review

If you have larger hands, or you want a richer sound than a soprano, a tenor ukulele is a better starting point. The KA-15T is the tenor member of Kala's KA-15 family and keeps the same recipe: mahogany body, mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard, Graph Tech NuBone nut and saddle and Aquila Super Nylgut strings.

The tenor scale is about 17 inches against 13.6 on the soprano. The frets are more widely spaced, which adults may find easier, and the higher string tension gives a fuller, more projecting tone with more sustain. There are 18 frets, so you can play further up the neck for melodies and solos. The nut is 35 mm wide, the same as the soprano.

Tenors suit fingerstyle playing and performing, so you are unlikely to outgrow it quickly. If you want to plug into an amp, Kala's KA-TE is the same idea with an under-saddle pickup and EQ.

Andertons lists the KA-15T on its own and as a bundle with a bag, and Thomann sells a starter kit. Check stock, as it sells out at times.
