HP Envy x360 14 2-in-1 (14-fa0, Ryzen 5 8640HS) review

Full review

HP's Envy x360 14 is the convertible we would buy at this price. HP's Irish spec sheet for the 14-fa0008na lists AMD's six-core Ryzen 5 8640HS with 16GB of LPDDR5-6400 memory and a 512GB SSD, which is plenty for Office, browsing, video calls and light photo editing. Argos lists the near-identical 14-fa0005na at its lowest price yet, comfortably under our €750 limit.

The 14-inch 1920 x 1200 IPS touchscreen sits behind Gorilla Glass and folds back flat on a 360-degree hinge, so it works as a tablet, in tent mode for recipes and video, or as a normal laptop. The body is aluminium, weighs 1.39 kg and is 16.9 mm thick, both good figures for a convertible.

HP includes a 5MP webcam with IR face sign-in and a physical privacy shutter, a backlit keyboard, two 10Gbps USB-C ports, two USB-A ports and HDMI 2.1, so you rarely need adapters. HP claims up to 14 hours 45 minutes from the 59 Wh battery.

The compromises are the screen, which is rated at 300 nits and covers only 62.5% of sRGB per HP, and the lack of USB4. A pen is not in the box, so check pen compatibility with HP before buying one.
