Microsoft Surface Pro 12-inch (2025, Snapdragon X Plus) review

Full review

The 12-inch Surface Pro is Microsoft's smaller, cheaper Surface, and it is the best Windows tablet you can get near this price. Microsoft's UK store lists the 8GB/256GB model at well under our €750 limit, and the 16GB version occasionally drops close to it. It uses an eight-core Snapdragon X Plus, which Microsoft rates with a 45 TOPS NPU, and has no fan, so it is completely silent.

The 12-inch 2196 x 1464 LCD runs at 90Hz. Microsoft claims up to 16 hours of video playback and 12 hours of web browsing, and the tablet weighs just 686 g.

The catch is the bill of materials. The Surface Pro 12-inch Keyboard, the Slim Pen and even the charger are all extras, which add significantly to the total cost. The 8GB model is also not sold as a Copilot+ PC, so it misses features like Recall and Click to Do; the 16GB version qualifies. Two USB-C ports are the only connections.

As with all Snapdragon devices, check that your essential software runs on Windows on Arm. If you want a laptop first and a tablet occasionally, the HP Envy x360 is better value.
