The Ghost is the shoe most runners think of when they think of Brooks, and the 18th edition is a refined version of a familiar formula. Brooks lists a 36 mm heel and 26 mm forefoot stack with a 10 mm drop and a men's weight of 289 g.
The midsole uses nitrogen-infused DNA Loft v3, a soft but stable foam that is durable and unfussy. The upper is a new engineered air mesh with a flat-knit tongue and a padded heel collar, and an Ortholite X-60 sockliner sits underfoot.
Where the Ghost stands out is width choice: Narrow, Regular, Wide and X-Wide are all offered, which is hard to find at this price.
It is not the lightest or bounciest shoe, but it is a calm, easy ride for daily jogs, parkrun and mixed training. Runners who want a livelier shoe should look elsewhere, while those wanting more cushioning can step up to the Glycerin 23. For most neutral runners, it is a safe starting point.
