Yonex Subaxia GT (SHBSG1) review

The Subaxia GT is the newest shoe in Yonex's range, released worldwide on 28 January 2026. Its headline feature is a midsole Yonex calls GRPHT THRTTL, which combines a new Power Cushion REV material with a graphite plate. Yonex claims, from its own testing, 37% better impact absorption and 42% more rebound than its older Hyper msLite midsole.

The midsole is split: firmer under the forefoot for a quick push-off and softer under the heel, with extra volume there to take the sting out of jump smashes and emergency stops. An inner bootie and Synchro-Fit insole are meant to keep the foot locked in.

That makes it appealing for strong, competitive players who spend a lot of time jumping, and for anyone who finds the 65 Z a little firm. The catch is price: at launch it was Yonex UK's most expensive badminton shoe. It also runs small according to Yonex UK, and it has been sold out there for long spells.

Because it is so new, there is little long-term durability evidence yet. If you want proven reliability, the 65 Z is the safer buy; if you want the newest cushioning Yonex makes, this is it.
