Full review
If screen size matters more than the last word in contrast, the 65-inch P8L is the best value here. TCL's 2026 P8L sits below the C7L, using a QD-Mini LED backlight on an HVA panel, and 65-inch sets are typically priced like the 55-inch models on this page.
TCL's UK page lists a 144Hz native panel, a 288Hz Game Accelerator at reduced resolution on HDMI 1 and 2, and native contrast of 6,000:1. Currys lists Dolby Vision, Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+ and HLG, and the 65-inch gains the Onkyo 2.1 speaker system with a subwoofer that the 55-inch lacks.
The compromise is dimming precision. TCL does not publish the zone count for this size (it quotes 112 zones only for the 85-inch), and the C7L has 1,152 zones at 65 inches, so expect more blooming around bright objects on black backgrounds, as with any backlit LCD with fewer zones.
For a family room where a big picture matters most, it is hard to beat for the money.

Spec check note: TCL's UK page gives the panel, refresh and Onkyo 2.1 sound but no HDMI total, dimensions or weight. Retailers list four HDMI 2.1 inputs, while TCL names only HDMI 1 and 2 for 144/288Hz, so we show two HDMI 2.1 plus two HDMI 2.0. Sound power is 35W on some listings or 40W (Currys), so we omit the figure. Weight is 16.9 kg on two retailer listings; Currys gives 15.8 kg.
