Full review

The Domane AL is Trek's answer for riders who want an endurance bike without carbon prices. The Gen 4 frame is built from Alpha aluminium and teamed with a full carbon fork with a tapered steerer, which noticeably smooths out rough surfaces. Trek says the new frame has more tyre room than the older Domane AL, although it does not publish a maximum size in the sources we could read.

The AL 4 uses Shimano Tiagra with 11 speeds, a 50/34T chainset and an 11-36T cassette. That is a sensible range for varied terrain. Disc brakes with 160 mm rotors do the stopping, and the wheels are tubeless-ready Bontrager Paradigm rims with 32 mm tyres, a comfortable width for Irish and British road surfaces.

The frame includes mudguard mounts and top-tube mounts, so it works for winter training and commuting. Trek's dealer network also means you can be measured and fitted properly, and the seven-size range from 44 to 61 cm suits smaller and taller riders alike.

It is not the lightest bike here and Tiagra is a notch below Shimano 105, but for riders who want comfort, dependability and local dealer support at a fair price, it is an easy recommendation.

Spec check note: Trek's Irish pages did not show the specification table, so parts come from a UK Trek dealer's listing of Trek's specification (listed as model year 2027). That listing does not give a weight, a maximum tyre size or the brake caliper model, and names Tiagra R4020 levers, so we do not state a brake type beyond disc with 160 mm rotors. Check the exact brakes before buying.
