Hisense U7S 85" ULED Mini LED (85U7STUK) review

Full review

The U7S is the lower-cost way into an 85-inch Mini LED. The retailer listing shows a Direct-LED Mini LED backlight, a 144 Hz native refresh rate, 1,300 cd/m2 brightness and a 5000:1 typical contrast ratio, with Dolby Vision, Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG. That is a very full HDR list for a lower-tier set, and it is wider than the Samsung's.

Four HDMI 2.1 ports are listed, with VRR support under FreeSync Premium Pro, though ALLM is not named in the listing. The weight is 28 kg without the stand, the lowest in this group, which makes it the easiest 85-inch to mount. The VESA pattern is 600 x 400 mm.

The compromises are in sound and details. The speaker output is listed at only 10 W RMS in a 2.1 setup, which is very modest for this screen size, so plan to buy a soundbar. The listing does not state eARC, the number of dimming zones or the model year, and VIDAA has fewer apps than Google TV or Tizen. The tuner list is wide, with DVB-T, T2, S and S2. It is the one to consider when screen size matters more than polish, but check the exact specification with the retailer.
