Paradoxe is the newest fragrance here and a good choice for someone who finds Good Girl or La Vie Est Belle too sweet. Prada builds it on three ingredients: a neroli bud extract at the top, a sugar-cane-derived amber molecule called Ambrofix in the heart, and a clean musk called Serenolide in the base.

It smells bright, clean and softly floral, with a warm, skin-like amber underneath. Its clean amber-musk style is on the soft side, and it can turn sharp if you overspray, so build up slowly.

Prada makes the whole range refillable, from a 10 ml travel spray to a 90 ml bottle with a 100 ml refill. Created by three perfumers, Nadège Le Garlantezec and Shyamala and Antoine Maisondieu, it is a stylish, current pick that works well for daytime and the office.

For a gift, 10, 30, 50, 90 ml plus 100 ml refill are the sizes the brand lists, and the same name often covers several versions (Paradoxe Intense, Paradoxe Virtual Flower, Paradoxe Pulp Edition), so check the label for the exact one before you buy. Try it on skin first if you can, since scent always smells a little different on each person.
