Pros

  • Four HDMI inputs with 4K 120Hz and VRR up to 165Hz
  • Superb for PS5, Xbox and PC gaming
  • Dolby Vision for films and games
  • webOS security updates promised to the end of 2030

Cons

  • No HDR10+
  • 55-inch uses the standard panel, not the tandem one on 77 and 83-inch
  • Glossy screen picks up reflections

At 55 inches the C6 is the OLED most people should start with. It delivers what makes OLED special, with true black, no glow around subtitles and wide viewing angles, and it pairs that with the best gaming connections of any TV in this size.

LG's UK product page lists four HDMI inputs that all handle 4K at 120Hz, with variable refresh rate up to 165Hz, auto low latency mode and quick media switching. HDMI 2 doubles as the eARC port for a soundbar. NVIDIA G-Sync and AMD FreeSync are both supported, so a gaming PC works as well as a console.

LG reserves its brighter tandem panel for the 77 and 83-inch C6; the 55-inch uses the familiar OLED EX type. That means it should be a touch less punchy in HDR than the G6, but it is still a good fit for most living rooms, especially in the evening.

HDR support covers Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG, but not HDR10+. Sound is a 40W 2.2-channel system with Dolby Atmos, fine for everyday TV. In the US the same set is sold as the OLED55C6PUA.

LG B6 55" (OLED55B65LA)

Compare prices in other countries

Each shop shows its own price, currency and delivery terms. Not every shop delivers abroad, and taxes can differ.

Pros

  • Usually the cheapest 55-inch OLED from a major brand
  • Four HDMI 2.1 inputs with VRR
  • Same OLED black levels as dearer models
  • Supports G-Sync and FreeSync

Cons

  • Positioned below the C6 for HDR brightness
  • Tops out at 120Hz
  • Basic 20W speakers

The B6 is LG's entry-level OLED, and at 55 inches it is the most affordable way to get OLED picture quality from a major brand. It uses a standard WOLED panel and the less powerful Alpha 8 processor, but it keeps the perfect blacks and wide viewing angles that make OLED so good for films.

LG's UK page confirms four HDMI inputs that all support 4K 120Hz, VRR, ALLM and eARC (on HDMI 2), plus NVIDIA G-Sync and AMD FreeSync compatibility. That is unusually generous at this price and makes it a strong partner for a PS5 or Xbox Series X. The limit is 120Hz rather than the C6's 165Hz, which only matters for PC gaming.

The trade-off is brightness. LG puts the B6 below the C6, with the Alpha 8 processor and no Brightness Booster, so HDR highlights should have less sparkle and it will suit a dim room better than a sunny one. In the evening the gap matters much less.

The built-in 20W sound is basic, so budget for a soundbar if you can. In the US it is sold as the OLED55B6GUA.

LG OLED evo G6 55" (OLED55G64LW)
Brightest picture

LG OLED evo G6 55" (OLED55G64LW)

Each shop shows its own price, currency and delivery terms. Not every shop delivers abroad, and taxes can differ.

Pros

  • Brightest LG OLED at 55 inches
  • Very slim, flush wall-mount design
  • Four HDMI 2.1 inputs up to 165Hz
  • Stronger 60W 4.2-channel sound than the C6

Cons

  • Costs much more than the C6
  • UK LW version is designed for the wall; check what stand is supplied
  • No HDR10+

The G6 is LG's premium OLED, and unlike the C6 it uses LG's brightest panel at 55 inches too. LG describes the G6 range as using its Primary RGB Tandem Panel 2.0, aimed at higher brightness and more vivid colour than the C6.

Connectivity matches the C6: LG's UK page lists four HDMI inputs with 4K 120Hz, VRR up to 165Hz, ALLM and QMS, with eARC on HDMI 2. The sound system is upgraded to 60W across 4.2 channels, and the panel is only 27.2mm deep, so it sits almost flat on the wall.

The UK model ending in LW is the wall-mount version. Versions without a stand come with LG's Zero Gap wall bracket instead, so check the listing if you want to stand it on furniture.

Is it worth the premium over a C6? If you watch in daylight, or simply want the best LG picture in a smaller room, yes. In a dim lounge the C6 gets you most of the way for much less. In the US it is sold as the OLED55G6WUA.

Samsung S90H 55" OLED (QE55S90H)
Best anti-glare

Samsung S90H 55" OLED (QE55S90H)

Samsung's mainstream OLED: four 165Hz HDMI inputs and an anti-glare screen, but no Dolby Vision.

Compare prices in other countries

Each shop shows its own price, currency and delivery terms. Not every shop delivers abroad, and taxes can differ.

Pros

  • Glare Free screen handles reflections well
  • All four HDMI inputs run 4K at up to 165Hz
  • Seven years of Tizen OS upgrades
  • Slim at under 4cm deep

Cons

  • No Dolby Vision
  • Samsung does not say which OLED panel type the 55-inch uses
  • Tizen home screen has a lot of promoted content

The S90H is Samsung's mainstream OLED for 2026 and the natural rival to the LG C6. Its big practical advantage is Samsung's Glare Free anti-reflection finish, which cuts down reflections from lamps and windows more than a typical glossy OLED screen.

Samsung's spec sheet, as reproduced by Euronics Ireland, gives every size from 42 to 83 inches a 100Hz native panel with VRR up to 165Hz, and all four HDMI inputs accept 4K at 165Hz with eARC. The 55-inch and larger sizes get Samsung's OLED HDR+ engine and FreeSync Premium Pro, as well as NVIDIA G-Sync compatibility. Sound is a 40W 2.1-channel system with Dolby Atmos.

There are two things to know. First, Samsung does not support Dolby Vision; you get HDR10+ instead, and Dolby Vision content falls back to standard HDR10. Second, Samsung uses different OLED panel types across the S90H range and does not say which one each size gets, so check the listing for the size you buy.

Samsung promises seven years of Tizen upgrades. In the US the 55-inch is sold as the QN55S90HAE.

Sony Bravia 8 II 55" (K-55XR8M2)

Each shop shows its own price, currency and delivery terms. Not every shop delivers abroad, and taxes can differ.

Pros

  • Beautifully natural, film-like picture
  • Rich QD-OLED colour
  • Screen-as-speaker sound is better than most
  • Google TV with every major app

Cons

  • Only two HDMI 2.1 ports, one shared with eARC
  • No HDR10+
  • Thicker than LG and Samsung rivals

Sony's Bravia 8 II launched in 2025 and remains Sony's flagship OLED in late 2026. It uses a QD-OLED panel combined with Sony's XR processing, and it is aimed squarely at people who care most about film and drama.

Sony tunes the picture for natural colour and skin tones, and the XR Processor is designed to handle lower-quality sources such as broadcast TV well. Sony's Acoustic Surface Audio+ vibrates the screen itself to produce sound, rated at 50W, which puts voices right where faces are.

Gaming is the weaker side. Sony's spec sheet confirms VRR only on HDMI 3 and 4, and one of those is the eARC port. If you use a soundbar, that leaves one fully featured input for a console. 4K 120Hz, ALLM and Dolby Vision are supported, but there is no HDR10+.

The 55-inch is 34mm deep and weighs 17.2kg without its stand, so it is thicker and heavier than the LG and Samsung sets here. The set came out in 2025, so check prices carefully; it is often discounted. In the US it is sold as the K-55XR80M2.

Panasonic Z95B 55" (TV-55Z95B)

Pros

  • Supports both Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+ Adaptive
  • Built-in Atmos speaker system with upward-firing drivers
  • Bright Primary RGB Tandem panel
  • Fire TV with Freely for UK channels

Cons

  • Only two full HDMI 2.1 ports
  • Taller and heavier than rivals because of the speaker bar
  • Premium price for a 2025 design

Panasonic's Z95B is the 55-inch OLED to choose if you do not want a soundbar. Panasonic's UK page confirms the Primary RGB Tandem panel, the HCX Pro AI MK II processor and the 360 Soundscape Pro sound system with Dolby Atmos, which includes upward-firing drivers and a forward-facing speaker bar built into the TV.

It is one of very few TVs that supports both Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+ Adaptive, so whichever format a streaming service uses, the TV can make use of it, and both formats can adjust the picture to the light in your room. Panasonic tunes it for an accurate, cinematic picture.

For gaming, the European spec sheet labels HDMI 1 and 2 as 4K 144Hz inputs, with eARC on HDMI 2, so as with Sony you have one fully featured port spare if a soundbar is connected. VRR, ALLM, FreeSync Premium and G-Sync are supported.

The speaker bar makes it taller than other 55-inch OLEDs (764mm without the stand) and heavier, at 19kg. The Fire TV interface includes Freely in the UK. It launched in 2025 and remains Panasonic's flagship OLED.

Philips OLED811 55" Ambilight (55OLED811)
Best Ambilight

Philips OLED811 55" Ambilight (55OLED811)

Best for: Ambilight fans and gamers · Upper mid-range

A well-specified OLED with four HDMI 2.1 ports, both HDR formats and Philips' signature Ambilight.

Ad · affiliate links

Compare prices in other countries

Each shop shows its own price, currency and delivery terms. Not every shop delivers abroad, and taxes can differ.

Pros

  • Three-sided Ambilight for a more immersive picture
  • Four HDMI 2.1 inputs up to 165Hz
  • Supports Dolby Vision 2 and HDR10+
  • 70W 2.2-channel sound

Cons

  • TitanOS has fewer apps than Google TV or webOS
  • eARC port not stated by Philips
  • Less widely stocked in Ireland than LG or Samsung

Philips' OLED811 is the most complete mid-range OLED on paper. TP Vision says the 55-inch uses an OLED EX panel with a claimed 2,500-nit peak, runs at up to 165Hz and has four HDMI 2.1 inputs, so it matches the LG C6 for gaming. It also supports every major HDR format, including Dolby Vision 2 Max and HDR10+, something neither LG nor Samsung can say.

The headline feature is Ambilight: LEDs on three sides of the TV project colours from the picture onto your wall. It makes the screen feel bigger and reduces eye strain in a dark room. AmbiScape can also sync up to four smart lights.

The 70W 2.2-channel speaker system is more powerful than most rivals at this size. The weak point is the software. TitanOS covers the main streaming apps, but its app store is smaller than Google TV's, so check your must-have services before buying, or plan to add a streaming stick.

The 55-inch was the first OLED811 size to launch, in June 2026. Coolblue lists it at 14.9kg without the stand and 39mm deep.

Buying guide

Is 55 inches big enough?

For a typical Irish or UK lounge where you sit about 2 to 2.5 metres away, 55 inches is a comfortable size. If you sit more than 2.5 metres away, or the TV is mainly for films and sport, consider a 65-inch. Measure your TV unit too: models with feet near the edges, such as the Sony Bravia 8 II, need a unit almost as wide as the TV.

Panel types: WOLED, QD-OLED and tandem

LG and Philips use WOLED panels; Sony's Bravia 8 II uses QD-OLED, a different panel type that Sony pairs with its own processing. The newest tandem panels (LG G6, Panasonic Z95B) stack extra layers for more brightness. All of them give the same perfect black; the differences are mostly in claimed HDR brightness and colour range.

Dolby Vision, HDR10+ or both?

Netflix and Disney+ use Dolby Vision heavily, while Amazon Prime Video uses HDR10+ for much of its content. LG and Sony support Dolby Vision only, Samsung supports HDR10+ only, and Panasonic and Philips support both. If a format is missing, the TV falls back to standard HDR10, so you never lose HDR completely.

Gaming: count the HDMI 2.1 ports

A PS5, Xbox Series X or gaming PC needs HDMI 2.1 for 4K at 120Hz with VRR. LG, Samsung and Philips give you four such ports. Sony and Panasonic give you two, and one of those is also the eARC port for a soundbar, so you may only have one fully featured port free.

Running costs and the EU energy label

The EU energy label shows consumption per 1,000 hours in standard mode. Coolblue lists the Philips OLED811 55-inch at 84 kWh per 1,000 hours (class G), and Euronics lists the Samsung S90H 48-inch at 86 kWh. HDR viewing is rated separately and usually uses more. Bright picture modes and high brightness settings increase consumption, so the Eco or Filmmaker modes are worth trying.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best 55-inch OLED TV in 2026?

For most people the LG C6 55-inch. It combines an excellent picture with four HDMI 2.1 inputs, Dolby Vision and a long software support promise. The LG B6 is the budget choice and the LG G6 the brightest.

Is the LG B6 or C6 better at 55 inches?

The B6 is cheaper and looks very similar in a dim room. The C6 is clearly brighter in HDR and supports up to 165Hz, so it is worth the extra if you watch in daylight or game on a PC.

Which 55-inch OLED is best for a bright room?

The LG G6, because it uses LG's brightest tandem panel, and the Samsung S90H, because its Glare Free screen deals well with reflections.

Do 55-inch OLED TVs suffer from burn-in?

Burn-in is possible if the same static image, such as a news ticker or game HUD, stays on screen for many hours every day. Modern OLEDs shift pixels and refresh the panel automatically, and for normal mixed viewing it is rarely a problem.

Which 55-inch OLED has the best built-in sound?

The Panasonic Z95B, which has a built-in Atmos speaker system with upward-firing drivers. The Philips OLED811 and LG G6 also have stronger-than-average speakers.
